CONEGLIANO VALDOBBIADENE

Riva Granda is based in Col San Martino, in the heart of the territory where Valdobbiadene DOCG is produced; an area of huge natural beauty and cultural and historical value. The area boasts a winemaking tradition several centuries long, which has deeply influenced the current landscape of mild and steep vineyards as far as the eye can see. These lands host ancient castles and sacred buildings, as well as hidden paths and trails between villages, vineyards and woods.

The Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG production area extends across the hills of 15 municipalities within the Veneto region, in the northern area of the Treviso province. The unique hilly landscape is the result of the area’s geology, the erosion generated by multiple water streams and millennia of slow human transformation (still ongoing). From Valdobbiadene towards East up until Vittorio Veneto, the landscape features a series of elongated hills with parallel separation lines – a very ancient origin due to the rise of seabeds. In the eastern part of the area, the hills have been shaped by Dolomites glaciers which have brought a variety of sediments downstream. The soil there is deep and features mixed rock and sand with a substantial clay component. In the western part of the area (where Farra di Soligo and our vineyards are located) the glaciers were not present and the soil maintains its ancient sea origin, featuring filtering marl and sandstone at a shallower depth. This is the reason why the hills across Conegliano Valdobbiadene area are different from East to West – they are milder in shape towards Conegliano, and steeper towards Valdobbiadene. In addition to these geological features, a unique microclimate with an average temperature of 12.3 °C, a constant flow of air and a marked temperature excursion between day and night in the month before harvest, allow the development of unique flavours and place the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOGC on the top of the ‘Prosecco quality pyramid’.
